Join artist and instructor Sam Strauss for an exciting 6-week exploration of pastel drawing techniques. Students will learn the fundamentals of working with soft pastels while exploring color, light, texture, and composition. Through demonstrations, guided exercises, and individual projects, students will develop confidence in their artistic skills and create a series of finished artworks inspired by both traditional and contemporary artists. By the end of the course, students will have a portfolio of completed pastel works and a solid understanding of professional pastel techniques.

Color mixing and color harmony
Creating texture and atmosphere
Landscape and still-life painting techniques
Expressive mark-making and creative problem-solving
How to develop and complete a finished pastel artwork

Artist's Loft Soft Pastels (48-color set)
Canson Mi-Teintes Pastel Pad
Kneaded eraser
White vinyl eraser
A soft dusting brush
Chamois cloth
Roll paper towels
