Classes start on:

Oct 29, 2025

Length of class:

6 weeks

Elevate your drawing skills beyond the basics! This Level 2 class is designed for adult artists who have a solid foundation in drawing fundamentals and are ready to tackle more sophisticated subjects, techniques, and concepts. We move past simple objects to focus on composition, depth, texture, and capturing the world with greater realism and personal style.

Who Should Enroll?

This course is ideal for students who have completed a Level 1 introductory drawing class or who have some prior experience with basic skills like contour drawing, value scales, and simple perspective. You should be comfortable with using a pencil and ready for more challenging assignments.

This course focuses on sharpening observation and technical skills through challenging exercises:

  • Mastering Composition: Go beyond centering your subject. Learn how to use the rule of thirds, negative space, framing, and dynamic layout to create powerful and balanced compositions.

  • Intermediate Perspective: Move beyond one-point perspective to tackle two- and three-point perspective for drawing more complex scenes, interiors, and architectural forms.

  • Capturing Form and Light (Advanced Value): Deepen your understanding of value by mastering various shading techniques (hatching, cross-hatching, stippling) to render volume, light, and shadow with greater subtlety and impact.

  • Exploring Texture: Learn specific methods for drawing convincing textures, including wood grain, fabric folds, glass, and rough surfaces.

  • Color theory: Begin adding color into your drawings.

  • Developing Personal Style: Receive guided feedback to help transition from technical exercises to drawing with greater individual expression.
