The FAQs of Frida Zuzu

As many know from our newsletter and social, we adopted a studio cat. Since that time, there have been many questions--and I am happy to answer.

  1. Why did the Board decide to adopt a cat?

Having a cat was one method we considered for mice.

While we have not eliminated services, we were able, with the adoption, to reduce the amount of services needed--at a savings!

Plus, having a furry friend adds some adventure ;)

  2. Where did her name come from?

Frida Zuzu is a combination of a nod to artist Frida Kahlo, who she reminded us of when we first met her, and Zuzu, her rescue name (which also fits if you have ever seen her fly through the studio and slide around the corner).

  3. Where was she adopted from?

Frida is a rescue from CatNaps of Pottstown. She was from a hoarder situation.

  4. How old is Frida?

Frida is a year old. Her estimated date of birth is December 2023.

  5. Does she have access to fresh water/food?

Yes! Frida has a fountain in the office that provides filtered, fresh water at all times. She also has an automated feeder that provides kibble throughout the day/evening on a regular schedule. In addition, she is given wet food daily. She has unfettered access to her office via the pet door.

  6. Who takes care of her?

When the decision was made to adopt, the Board agreed to be responsible for her complete care. Someone comes in daily to ensure her fountain is filled, she gets her wet food, and that her litter is tended to. We also spend time playing with her and getting cuddles and little love bites. Her timed feedings are monitored remotely via app.

  7. Can I volunteer to come and take care of Frida/play with her?

Absolutely! Send an email to us at gnartleague@gmail.com and we would welcome anyone who is interested in visiting her.

  8. May I giver her treats?

Yes, but please limit to 1-2. There are treats near the bulletin board by the front door.

  9. Can she go outside?

No, we ask that she not be let outside. She is an indoor cat who has never been outside. She may be curious when you leave or open the door, so please just be mindful and do not prop the doors.

  10. What if I am allergic to cats?

We understand that some may be allergic to cats. We have enhanced cleaning protocols and the art league is a large place. That said, if needed she can be put in the office and her mini door closed for the duration of class. Additionally, we have allergy medication in the bathroom, if needed.

We also plan to add air filtration in the coming months.

  11. Does she have toys?

Yes; there are some kicker-type toys (with cat nip) in the studio. She also loves her fluffy balls, though those seem to hide easily. There is also a feather wand toy near the office that she loves.

She also has a scratcher in the office as well as a cat tree.

  12. Will you be getting her a buddy?

There are no immediate plans but time will tell.

  13. Why is her basement door closed?

We need to close off access to a back room that is not safe for her, once that is complete, she can begin exploring the basement.

If you have other questions about Frida Zuzu or get some great pictures of her please let us know. We know that the kids classes have already been drawing multiple pictures of her... so her role as muse has taken off quickly.
