Plein air is a French term coined by the impressionists meaning “open air”. Are you in love with landscape painters like Monet, Corot, or Pissaro? In this class you will learn the structures of plein air painting, a term coined by the French impressionist meaning “open air”. Each class students will learn about the material process of plein air painting, as well as the compositional and design aspects of starting and finishing a piece outdoors. This class welcomes all levels.
LOCATIONS:
Norristown Farm Park (Week 1 + 4)
Evansburg State Park Visitors Center (Bathrooms on site) (Week 2 + 5)
Valley Forge National Historic Site (Bathrooms on site) (Week 3 + 6)
SUPPLY LIST:
French Easel or Pochade box + Tripod
Canvas (8 x 10in, 10 x 12in, or smaller
Clips Palette
Portable palette container
Airtight solvent jar
Basic oil or acrylic paint set
Palette knife
Old rags / paper towels
Rubber gloves (if preferred)
Apron (if preferred)
Umbrella (for shade / if preferred)
