In this class, we will take on the common, natural elements that are seen most often in landscapes through techniques with acrylic paint. Learn tips and tricks on mastering trees, clouds, flowers, hills, valleys, and many more. Follow the instructor as we all create our own version of a common image. We'll spend 1-2 classes on each painting. All skill levels and abilities are welcome. Suggested Supplies: -5-6 canvases (any size that you choose, 16x20 is a good basic size, but smaller will also work) -A basic set of acrylic paints -A set of brushes (a large and small flat, various rounds and a liner) -Palette paper or wax paper

This isn't your average middle school art class—it’s a tactile, low-stress escape designed specifically for adults who want to trade their keyboards for some clay. In this course, we focus entirely on **handbuilding**—the foundational (and arguably most creative) way to work with clay using just your hands and a few simple tools. No spinning wheels, no "Ghost" movie pressure—just pure, meditative construction. In addition to learning the foundational elements of clay, we will focus on The Big Three. Diving into Pinch, Coil, and Slab construction— Learn how to score and slip so your handles actually stay attached (a vital life skill). Experiment with stamps, textures, and carving to give your work a sophisticated, high-end finish. Discover how to choose and apply glazes that turn raw clay into food-safe, functional art.

This class specifically uses soft pastels. We discuss composition, color, subject matter and what will make your painting uniquely yours. Please bring your subject ideas to class with you each week. An iPad is terrific or a printed photo of your subject idea. I always bring a set of soft pastels with me each week for newcomers to use until they decide if soft pastels are right for them. I recommend a particular type of paper to use initially: UART or Pastel Premier. I bring sheets of paper with me each class and will sell at cost. The initial use of my pastels are free. Please bring an old towel or 2 for the table and floor. Pastels are a little messy and will break if they are dropped on floor. Please bring an old rag/towel for your hands when you work. Also bring foam core board to be used as a backer board for your paper. There are easels in the classrooms. We have a 10 person maximum for each session. In this class, you will learn the basics of Zentangle’s creative and relaxing method of art with our first guest instructor, Sue Trembeth! Sue is a certified Zentangle teacher and creates the most beautiful work! By using this method, easy-to-learn repetitive patterns (called tangles), and deliberate pen strokes, you will create an abstract piece of art while entering into a relaxed and focused meditative state.
